Date: 26/Feb/2017
Market Structure discussed: Perfect Competition
Synopsis: Unlike the flourishing Japanese economy in the 1980's, the Japanese economy is experiencing deflation at a staggering rate. This deflation, among many things, has created an interesting phycological shift in the Japanese youth. Because the price of goods is spiraling down and luxury brands are losing value, the youth place more value on life experience than materialistic things. Thus, the inferior goods are now the new normal, creating Perfect Competition among businesses that have perfect substitutes and nearly no control on price.

The Bang Mug was also a hit for Ikea. By renovating the mug to look better and be more profitable, they cut down costs and increased the number of mugs that could be made and shipped.
